Highway 243 was the scene of two collisions over the weekend. At 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, Barbara Lynch, 74, of Winnetka, California, was driving her 2012 black VW Jetta south on Highway 243 when she hit something and ran off the road, according to California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Darren Meyer. Lynch sustained minor injuries but refused medical transport. No passengers were in Lynch’s vehicle.

At 10:24 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, Trenton Moore, 46, of La Quinta, was driving his 1981 Kawasaki Sport XR motorcycle south on Highway 243 just south of Smith Creek at the bottom of the Hill when he collided with a northbound vehicle driven by Vincent Vigroux, 30, of Paris, France. Vigroux was driving a rental car, a 2015 Toyota Camry. Moore was driving at an unsafe speed, according to Meyer, and suffered moderate injuries. He was transported to an area hospital. Vigroux was uninjured.
