Republican candidate Dwight Kealy, running for the U.S. Congressional District 36 seat, filed his first campaign documents earlier this month. Kealy entered the race in November.
As of Dec. 31, Kealy had about $295,000 in cash. However, $250,000 was a personal loan to the campaign. Actual contributions totaled $44,000, of which nearly a quarter were from family members.
His expenditures during the period were about $1,800.
At the end of September 2015, Rep. Dr. Raul Ruiz had nearly $1.3 million in cash. His 2015 fourth-quarter report has yet to be submitted and is not due to be filed with the Federal Elections Commission until the end of the month.
