Hemet Unified School District announced the registration window for the 2016-17 school year Students Achieving in Fun Environments After School and The Zone middle-school programs. Registration opens on Monday, March 14, and closes Friday, April 22. District schools will be closed from March 28 through April 1 for spring recess.

The SAFE program operates at all elementary sites, and The Zone operates at middle schools. These after-school programs operate each day school is in session. Programs start at school dismissal and run until 6 p.m. or three hours, whichever is longer.

The programs provide a safe after-school environment for students, offering opportunities for enrichment, academic support, physical education and creative learning, and are provided at no charge to parents.

The SAFE and Zone programs provide various activities. Each school program includes these main components:

• an after-school snack;

• an educational and literacy component in content areas;

• homework time with assistance for clarification; and

• an educational enrichment component (visual and performing arts, recreational,   physical fitness and prevention activities).

For details on the requirements, call the SAFE office at 951-765-5100, ext. 3901. Registration material is available at each school site or on the HUSD web page

at www.hemetusd.org. Select “Departments” and then “Educational Service” and finally “SAFE & Zone After School Programs.”
