Last week in “The Days of Our Nine Lives,” Jake from State Farm was feeling down about not finding a forever family gig.

London: Wow. It just seems so different in here without Skye.

Olivia: Yeah, but where is he?

London: You didn’t hear? He got a new job with a forever mom. What a lucky guy.

London: Are you kidding? What a lucky lady. She’ll have the best-looking cat in the neighborhood.

Olivia: Well, I didn’t know about Skye, but I know something else. Jake is auditioning with a German shepherd rescue.

Bill: He’ll be great. And I also have news.

Olivia: What?

Bill: Ernie Maxwell took the job with the forever family, and we have a new canine member of our group. His name is Rocky. He’s just a kid, maybe 1 or 2 years old.

Olivia: What kind of dog?

Bill: He looks like a Maltepoo, and he is the most amazing color — brindle. But he really needs to visit the groomer.

London: He should get lots of attention, being the only dog.

Bill: Well, sure. But you know, he’s not the only guy here who is a beautiful color. Look at my beautiful, champagne-colored coat.

London: You’re right. But all of us felines are beautiful, and some of us (me, for example) are just waiting for that special human who wants us to be the perfect lap cat. Oh man, give me a good lap, and I’m in heaven.

Olivia: Me, too. Me, too.

(Knocking at the cattery door)

Rocky: Hi. I’m Rocky. May I come in?
