Last week’s story about the plans for Phase 1 of the Butterfield Commons at Strawberry Creek did not clarify the future availability of the pickleball courts.
Currently, these are located on the surface of an old tennis court and just in front of the playground area. When construction begins, access to the pickleball courts, just as access to the playground, will be prevented unless some special provisions with the contractor are possible.
However, Janice Lyle, board president for the San Jacinto Mountains Community Center, shared in an email that new pickleball courts are part of the Phase 1 construction plans. Only the location of the courts is being studied now.
“We haven’t established their final placement but absolutely will have them as part of this first phase. Just wanted to reassure all of our pickleball enthusiasts,” Lyle wrote to Ron Perry, a pickleball enthusiast.
