Directors of the Lake Hemet Municipal Water District approved the annual $75 fee for water availability imposed on its Improvement District A (Garner Valley) customers.

The board approved Resolution 762 at its April 21 meeting and set 3 p.m. Thursday, July 21, as the date for a public hearing on the charge. The board will hear and consider all objections or protests for the fee at that time.

The fee is imposed on all properties within the IDA and was originally approved in 1987, when the Garner Valley Property Owners Association agreed to help pay for water sources drilled in the winter of 1985 and 1986.

About $25,000 is collected from the 310 parcels in the IDA. After collection expenses, the funds are used for constructing and expanding water system facilities needed to meet water demand within the IDA.
