Wow, what a wild round Brendan Steele had Thursday at the Memorial in Dublin, Ohio! The native Idyllwilder fired a 7-under-par 31-34 -- 65 to grab sole possesion of 2nd Place, one shot off the lead of Dustin Johnson.

He went out perfect in 31, with a string of four consecutive birds -- five in six holes, including a 30-foot putt on no. 2.

On the back nine, a hiccup: he beat up the rough around the green pretty well at no. 14 on the way to a double bogey, but then bounced back with a bird at no. 15. On the 17th green he drained a 15-footer for bird, and that was his last putt of the day, 'cuz on the par-4 18th he put one in from 154 yards for an eagle 2.

You'll want to get up early Friday, before 5 a.m. PDT, to follow his play live via cell phone or computer.
