Last week in “The Days of Our Nine Lives,” some of the adult cats were considering making tally marks on the cattery wall to keep track of the days until they get forever homes.

Dovey: (peeking through the window from the office) Hey! Look at me! I’m the new ARF office cat.

Mr. Gray: Glad you’re here to take the job of office cat now that Leia is in here with us. How did you get that gig?

Dovey: I convincingly pleaded my case that I would prefer to be the only cat. I want the humans all to myself!

Sadie: Now you sound like Bobbie. She’s crazy about the humans, but not so much other cats.

Leia: Well, it’s happened again. Peppermint Patty, our last kitten, has gone to a forever home.

Dovey: Good for her and less distraction for us, if you know what I mean.

Ginger: I’m not certain I do.

Dovey: I mean that the humans won’t be sidetracked by the kittens and instead might focus on us. I need to get into

my own home.

Ginger: As do I. I need a quiet environment with a warm lap.

Mr. Gray: That’s what I need, too.

Ginger: There are quite a few of us in here who would be much happier in a home with a human or two to call our own.

Leia: Not to talk behind any cat’s back, but Bill really, really needs that. If just one human would take the time to visit with him for a few days, she would see what a love he can be. Really, I suppose this is true for several of us in here.

Sadie: You’re singing my song, Leia.
