Driving under the influence was the cause of the only crash on Hill roads over the last week. At 12:55 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, Ronald Cook, 48, of Hemet, was driving his black 2007 Volkswagen Jetta eastbound on Highway 74 just west of McCall Park Road in Mountain Center when he ran off the road and crashed into the mountain.

Cook was transported to San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital in Banning with lacerations to his face. He was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence, according to the California Highway Patrol report.

Cook had no passengers in his vehicle and no other vehicles were involved in the incident, according to Darren Meyer, CHP public information officer.
