The Hemet Unified School District Transportation Department began providing bus service this school year for Idyllwild students attending Hamilton High School in Anza.
Prior to this year, parents of Idyllwild students who wished to attend Hamilton had to provide transportation.
According to Leonella Leash, Hamilton High office manager, one middle school and seven Idyllwild high school students make the daily trip to Hamilton. A special “extra-curricular activity” bus returns students who stay after regular school hours for sports or other after-school activities.
Hamilton is the only public high school on the Hill. Enrollment in 2014-15 was 326 for grades nine through 12 compared to 2,300 at Hemet High School, the primary destination of Idyllwild/Pine Cove students.
Parent reviews of Hamilton often mention smaller class sizes and a tight-knit relationship with the community as reasons their children enjoy attending.
