The Idyllwild Water District Board of Directors held a special meeting Friday, Dec. 9. New directors Dr. Charles “Chip” Schelly and Vic Sirkin were present for the day-long meeting interviewing interim general manager candidates.

A tentative choice was made at the end of the session. Board Acting President John Cook sent the following statement, “The IWD board interviewed a number of excellent interim general manager candidates. A selection was unanimously made. After paper work is completed, we will introduce our new interim general manager.”

The board also agreed to hold another special meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14. A variety of topics will be discussed. Sirkin proposed this session, suggesting several issues, such as election of board officers. The other directors also recommended other items to address next week before taking action during the regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 21.

The items the board will address at the special meeting include forming a subcommittee to evaluate its legal service and possibly selecting new counsel, board stipends, re-evaluation of current lawsuits, the need for engineering assistance for current pipeline projects, the use of sheriff’s deputies at future meetings and choosing rules of order.

Before going into closed session, Nancy Borchers of Pine Cove challenged the board. “What is your legacy going to be? You’re coming up to some difficult decisions. Will you be a hero or a goat? Make wise decisions and do what is right for the community. Think long-term, not short-term,” she told the board.
