Besides a new bell schedule, Idyllwild School will have two new additions to its faculty.

After the end of the school year and 25 years of teaching, Dwight “Buzz” Holmes retired as music director for the Hemet Unified School District and Idyllwild School. His replacement is slated to be William Beuche. Beuche has been selected but the official hiring process is not yet completed, according to Matt Kraemer, Idyllwild School principal.

The new bell schedule will affect the physical-education program because more classes will have to be held Wednesdays, now the short days vs. Fridays in the past. Consequently, Idyllwild has hired Roger Knobloch to support current PE teacher Darren McKay on Wednesday.

Knobloch has been a PE teacher with HUSD since 1997. He is from Wisconsin. Before joining HUSD, he taught nine years in Arizona, which is where he met Kraemer.

A new math program — Eureka — will be introduced at the school this year, Kraemer added. This approach will stress the theories behind equations, along with actual calculations.

HUSD will welcome a new trustee this fall. Effective Aug. 2, Joe Wojcik resigned his seat after moving outside the HUSD’s boundaries. He had been a trustee since his election in 2006.

In response to Wojcik’s resignation, board president, and representing Idyllwild, Vic Scavarda said, “I genuinely enjoyed working with Joe. He has a lot of institutional knowledge and he will be missed. He served the kids of HUSD well and faithfully for 11 years. And he has a great sense of humor.“

The governing board will determine the schedule and process for filling the vacancy in Trustee Area 3 at its Aug. 15 meeting.
