A local man was cited for driving under the influence and a Hemet man was arrested on a felony charge last week.

At 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, Ryan Smith, 24, of Pine Cove, was driving a black 2003 Suzuki northbound on North Circle, north of Fir Street near the intersection with River Road, when he made an unsafe turning movement to the right, causing the right side of his vehicle to strike a concrete barrier. The collision caused the vehicle to roll over, coming to rest on its roof.

The responding California Highway Patrol officer cited Smith for suspicion of driving under the influence, alcohol, a misdemeanor offense since no other person was injured. He was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs by Idyllwild Fire Department where he was released to hospital medical care for treatment of his injuries.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, Roderick Morris, 23, of Hemet, was stopped for speeding while driving a white 2001 Chevy Malibu eastbound on Highway 74 near U.S. Forest Service Cranston Station. On checking license and registration, the CHP officer discovered Morris was wanted on a felony warrant for skipping a court appearance. Morris was arrested at the scene.

Traffic incident reports come from CHP public information or desk officers’ reading of responding officers’ reports.
