The Art Alliance of Idyllwild will sponsor The Imagery of Words from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at Town Hall. The event is free with a community potluck and a no-host bar. The event pairs poets, visual artists, musicians and film for an evening of inspired artistry.

Featured poet Kenji Williams, poet in residence for Nike, will perform as well as notable Idyllwild poets, actors, writers and authors, Mick Lynch, Suzanne Avalon, Françoise Frigola, Bronwyn Jones and Katya Williamson will each read a timeless work of poetry.

Over the course of the last six weeks, 22 poets submitted a total of 54 original poems to AAI visual artists. Ten artists stepped up to the challenge together choosing 16 poems, each of which inspire a piece of art which will be available to collectors as companion works in a silent auction.

Also, Cole Withers, Jen Haj and Eric Yandell will perform originals accompanied by acoustic guitar. The short film “30 Cent” creator Eli Raybon will feature. And jazz piano and harp performances by Barbara Rayliss and Christian Chalifour, respectively, will round out an evening where the senses will sizzle with poet portraits by Aaron Demarco and Neil Jenkins (who will live paint a piece inspired by a poem). Mimi and Don Lamp will create notecards and AAI will raffle a gift basket. Mike Gustin provides sound and audio/visual.

All proceeds will endow arts education in Idyllwild.
