Geoffrey Caine passed away Saturday, Feb. 24. He was 71 years old. Caine, along with his wife Dr. Renate Caine, founded the Caine Learning Center in Idyllwild. The world-renowned authors and educators wrote prolifically about natural learning.

Caine was a profound man — a lawyer, a law professor, an educator, an author, a learning consultant, and a quiet and inquisitive member of the community.

He offered his service to the Idyllwild Water District as others were bailing to leave. He was appointed to the board in January 2017. The following August, he was elected to a full four-year term. As his health problems grew, he submitted his resignation, which was to be effective March 1.

IWD was not his only service to the Idyllwild community. In 2006, he was elected to the Idyllwild Chamber of Commerce and served as president from August 2007 until he resigned in the spring of 2008.

A memorial is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at St. Hugh’s Episcopal Church.
