The Idyllwild Town Crier garnered a second place win in the 2018 National Newspaper Association’s Better Editorial Contest in the category “Editions — Best Local News Coverage” among daily and non-daily newspapers with a circulation of less than 3,000.

Judge notes for the entry were, “Excellent news coverage of diverse topics to showcase the local community.”

Over the years, the Town Crier has won numerous awards for individual stories and features, but an award for general news coverage is special.

First place in the same category went to a newspaper in Montana, while third place was awarded to a newspaper in Nebraska, and honorable mention went to a newspaper in North Dakota.

The Town Crier additionally won honorable mention in the category Best Newspaper Promotion among daily and non-daily newspapers with a circulation of less than 10,000 for Halie Wilson’s “fish wrap” promotional page.
