A brush fire near Bay Tree Springs, about 2 miles north Lake Fulmor, was reported at around 1:40 p.m. today. The US Forest Service, Cal Fire and Idyllwild Fire crews responded with CHP assistance.

The incident commander was Earl Wilson with the US Forest Service.

2:50 p.m. UPDATE: Prevention Captain Fred Pena, public information officer, said the cause of the fire is under investigation, as are the other two that flared up two weeks ago. Pena said crews held the fire to a half acre and the forward rate of speed has stopped.

2:30 p.m. UPDATE: Both lanes of Highway 243 have reopened. The fire seems to be contained.

A heat-related injury was reported and an ambulance called for a 25-year-old man.

2:15 UPDATE: A fixed-wing aircraft originally called in has been canceled, but a helicopter is dropping water from Lake Fulmor on the blaze.

2:05 p.m. UPDATE: Both lanes are closed on Highway 243 at the incident. The fire had spread to a half acre at moderate speed.

At 2 p.m. the fire was at about a third of an acre, moving at a moderate rate of speed with 3-5 mile per hour winds in an area with medium-dense fuels.
