Fireside Book Group
A more uplifting title this month, “The Art of Racing in the Rain” by Garth Stein, is offered by The Fireside Book Group.
“Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively, and by listening very closely to the words of his master, Denny Swift, an up-and-coming race car driver,” wrote Fantastic Fiction. “Through Denny, Enzo has gained tremendous insight into the human condition, and he sees that life, like racing, isn’t simply about going fast. Using the techniques needed on the race track, one can successfully navigate all of life’s ordeals.”
Fireside Book Group meets from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at the Idyllwild Library. A variety of fiction and non-fiction books are read. It is open to all.
Presidents Book Club
The Presidents Book Club will discuss the 20th president, James A. Garfield, from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at the Idyllwild Library.
Garfield was elected as the United States’ 20th president in 1881, after nine terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. His presidency was impactful, but cut short after 200 days when he was assassinated.
Participants may read any material they like including internet sites such as whitehouse.gov, Wikipedia or the presidential library site for the particular president discussed. The library orders a small selection of books to choose from, too.
