George

Last week in “Days of Our Nine Lives,” the ARF cats discussed their shyness when first meeting new people.
Indie: Last weekend was a drag.
Zeus: No kidding. ARF was so slow with hardly any visitors.
Heavenly Whiskers: What can we do to encourage possible cat guardians to stop by?
Sadie: Hmmm, let’s think about this.
Heavenly Whiskers: Maybe we need to reiterate just what great companionship we offer.
Mr. Gray: Especially for seniors or someone who lives alone.
Pepper: How great to come home to a loving four-legged!
George: I know I would meet my human at the door, wind in and out of his legs, and purr with love.
Zeus: I’d do the same! I would give back 10 times the amount of love she gives me.
Mr. Gray: I’d give back 100 times the amount!
Indie: All right, you two. Any one of us would give so much love and affection.
Pepper: I’d also listen to their problems and how their day went, and I’d never talk back or complain.
Heavenly Whiskers: I’d do the same. And then when they settled in for the evening, I’d be nearby for them to pet. Petting a cat is very therapeutic, you know.
Thomas: Scientists have proven that the act of petting a cat releases oxytocin, the bonding hormone or “cuddle chemical,” which can make a human feel less stressed.
Pepper: Wow! I didn’t know we were that good.
George: Even if a human doesn’t factor in the physical benefits of us felines, just having another intelligent living being in the house is a wonderful thing.
Sadie: Especially a very intelligent being like me!
