I would like to add another important role that Kay Ceniceros played after moving to Idyllwild following her retirement as county supervisor. She was instrumental in helping the Idyllwild Area Historical Society (IAHS) obtain the historic cabin and property which now houses our museum.
At an early meeting with Jim Venable, the county supervisor at that time, Kay politely reminded him, when he said there were no funds available for such a purchase, that when she retired she left a considerable amount in the Riverside County treasury. She questioned why a portion of that money couldn’t be used for this very worthwhile project. Her influence and support made all the difference and we obtained the funds.
She remained in an advisory role with the IAHS for many years. Her enthusiasm for preserving the history of our area greatly contributed to its success.
