Winner of the snow guessing contest revealed

The second snowstorm of the season brought quite a bit of snow with the majority hitting Thanksgiving Day. The Cal Fire Pine Cove station recorded 22 inches of snow Thanksgiving Day and Idyllwild Fire Protection District recorded 13.25 inches of snow for the entire storm.

According to National Weather Service, snowfall was 14-18 inches for Idyllwild at 5,400 feet of elevation.

Prior to the storm, Caltrans asked that everyone traveling to the mountain communities have chains in their vehicles in the event conditions escalated to requiring chains on all vehicles, R-3. That level, R-3, was implemented.

Power outages impacted Idyllwild and Pine Cove Friday with power being restored by mid to late afternoon.

The winner of the snow guessing contest is Laura Bentley. She selected Nov. 19. We had several people guess Nov. 19 and 21. No one guessed Nov. 20. We took all the names of those who guessed Nov. 19 and 21, put them into a hat and drew Laura’s name.
