The Friends of the Idyllwild Library is having a local author fair “Celebrating Idyllwild Authors” from 4-8 p.m. on Jan. 7 to kick-off the Idyllwild Reads program. Idyllwild Reads is part of the yearlong Idyllwild Library Centennial Celebration.
If you are an author and would like to participate, the Friends of the Idyllwild Library would love to celebrate you and your books at this event. It’s our hope that the reading community will choose a local author for their favorite read.
There are two options for participation.
First, each interested author will have a table to display and offer their book(s). They will have the chance to personally introduce their book(s) to the people who visit their display table.
Secondly, for those authors who may not be available to attend, the library will create a display of local authors and their books for check-out from the library. If you are interested in this option, please donate a copy or two before Jan. 2 and they will be added to the collection in time for the event.
Idyllwild Reads event
As part of the Idyllwild Library Centennial Celebration, the Friends of the Library and The Idyllwild Community Fund are sponsoring Idyllwild Reads.
Starting Jan. 6, Idyllwild readers will have the opportunity to complete our Idyllwild Reads ballot. There are three voting categories: favorite book, favorite teen/young adult book, and favorite children’s book. You can submit more than one ballot if you cannot decide on one favorite book.
Ballots will be available at the library, the Town Crier office, and on social media accounts for the library and The Friends of the Library. The submission deadline is Feb. 4. All signed ballots will be entered in a drawing in the category for which the ballot is submitted. The drawing is for a yet-to-be-determined prize for each book category.
Everyone who participates by voting will be put into the drawing in March when we will hold a community discussion of the favorite book and the favorite teen/young adult book. There will be a children’s story time featuring the favorite children’s book.
Once the ballots are counted, we will publish a list of the top reads in each category. During the month of February, the library staff will accumulate multiple copies of the most popular book in each category, depending on availability.
We will then encourage all Idyllwild readers to read the favorite book in the category (or categories) of their choice.
So … start thinking back on all the books you have read so you can decide on your favorite. We are excited to see what Idyllwild reads!
