There was one collision on Highway 74, according to California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Matt Napier.

On June 14 at 2:45 a.m. Rodrigo Cuellar, 27 of San Jacinto, was driving his red 2016 Dodge Journey westbound on Highway 74 just west of Dry Creek at a stated speed of 35 mph. Cuellar didn’t realize he was rapidly approaching a drainage ditch while drifting off the right-hand side of the highway. He plummeted over the side of the highway and into the ditch colliding with several large rocks and boulders.

Cuellar, after failing a field sobriety test, was arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance but was uninjured. His passenger, Rafael Cuellar, 29 of San Jacinto, was transported by AMR to Riverside County Regional Medical Center with major injuries. The vehicle was towed by Idyllwild Garage.
