The article “Illegal campfires are on the rise” was truly alarming.

Having evacuated two times in the last 10 years, the fire danger in our forest is huge. From the article, it seems that people are making fires in places where there should simply not be fires.

I hope that our forest and fire authorities can impress upon people that they need a California Campfire Permit (which hopefully comes with clear and strict guidelines).

Perhaps, there could be a mandatory fire extinguisher as part of the permit. I hope our fire authorities have the manpower to check areas out for illegal campfires. And I agree that there should be stiff fines for illegal campfires.

The devastation of our forests, the fear of losing our homes and the time and personal expense of evacuating should be on the minds of anyone having a campfire in our forest.
