Two collisions occurred on Highway 243 over the last two weeks both including left-hand turns, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) Public Information Officer Matt Napier.

On July 15 at 5:02 p.m., Fay Lynn Rosinsniffen, 64 of Idyllwild, was stopped in her white 1995 Ford Explorer on the shoulder of Highway 243 north of Saunders Meadow Road preparing to make a left turn onto Highway 243. According to CHP, she failed to yield as she crossed over the northbound lane in front of Christian Aguilar, 33 of Hemet, who was driving a blue 15-foot semi-truck north on Highway 243 at 25 mph resulting in the collision of her car and the semi-truck. Neither car was towed. No one was injured in the incident.

On July 7, 2020 at 2:45 p.m., Michael Ryan Rockwell, 34 of Idyllwild, was parked in a private driveway in his 2016 white Dodge Ram preparing to make a left-hand turn onto Highway 243. Juan Bautista Diaz, 51 of Mecca, was driving his 2007 red Ford Focus at 50 to 60 mph north on Highway 243 just south of Poppet Flats Road. Rockwell failed to yield and pulled out of the driveway in front of Diaz, causing both vehicles to collide and resulting in significant damage to both vehicles. Both vehicles were towed by Idyllwild Garage, but no one was injured in the incident.
