Last week in “Days of Our Nine Lives,” ARF cats continued their discussion about effects of heat on animals.
Whiskers: COVID, COVID, COVID! That’s all I hear anymore. When will this end?
Sadie: If I had the answer to that, I’d be famous.
Whiskers: It has had such an effect on pets as well as their guardians.
Sadie: I have the feeling many humans who had not had pets decided to get one once this pandemic set in.
Pepper: Why would they do that?
Whiskers: There are lots of reasons. Did you know that a pet in the home can do wonders for the guardian?
Sadie: Yes! I’ve heard that a human can benefit from having a dog or cat by experiencing decreased blood pressure, cholesterol levels and reducing feelings of loneliness.
Whiskers: Not to mention the increased opportunities for exercise and outdoor activities.
Pepper: And in this pandemic, outdoor activities are probably the safest.
Whiskers: Don’t forget that having a dog or cat can give a sense of purpose to any guardian.
Pepper: Another great benefit is that the human will have a loving being that will be there through thick and thin.
Whiskers: That alone is very valuable.
Pepper: On top of everything else, a pet doesn’t care if its guardian is wearing sweats all the time, has bad breath or hasn’t had her hair colored or cut in weeks!
Whiskers: Ha! That is so true! And a cat or dog is so very happy to have the guardian at home, regardless of the reason.
Sadie: I think having one of us in the home is a win-win for all involved.
Pepper: I couldn’t have said it better.
