Molly Cozens, president of the local Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) chapter, heard in August that the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree was coming from Eureka. “… there was a suggestion to send handmade ornaments, with a suggestion they be made of natural resources from our state,” she said.

The PEO requisitioned Denise Van Herpen of The Green Thing Nursery to create 40 ornaments with Idyllwild written on each. “We thought this would be a good representation of our town while supporting a local small business,” said Cozens.

“These ornaments are now on display on the west lawn of the US Capitol, representing the USDA Forest Service and California.”
