Last week in “Days of Our Nine Lives,” the ARF cats celebrated Claire’s adoption.
Phil: (sneaks into ARF to spy on Harley, who is posing for a camera) Harley! What are you doing?
Harley: Oh, hi, Phil. I’m just taking some selfies, hoping one is good enough so I may win the ARF Pets of the Year contest.
Pepper: You? Win a contest? What are you talking about?
Harley: ARF’s (almost) annual contest that raises funds to cover veterinary costs for local dogs and cats.
Lulu: Well, I’m so beautiful that I should win for the cat category. Look at how elegant I am!
Whiskers: Lulu, you could run into some stiff competition. Look at me.
Pepper: And me! I’m fun-loving and good-looking!
Harley: Beauty is one thing, but personality is another. I have loads of it, and just look at this photo!
Don: So I guess a few of us here really need to get photos of us that show how personable we are.
Phil: What about dogs? Do they stand a chance against us felines?
Paisley: Of course, because they have their own category, for dogs only.
Don: I know a super cute hamster. What about her?
Harley: She may enter the “other” category. There are many pets that aren’t dogs or cats.
Lola: How do we find out more about this contest once we have really good photos?
Pepper: Humans need to watch for more info on social media, on posters, or by calling ARF. Entries begin on March 1.
Lola: And I’ve heard there are amazing prizes to be won.
Harley: So humans who don’t have a pet to enter, have time to adopt one of us now.
Paisley: Hurray!
