Silver Fire suspect’s jury trial moving ahead
Riverside County Superior Court disposed of a transient’s mental health diversion and probation suitability filings, and decided to move ahead with a jury trial for the man charged with starting the 2013 Silver Fire.

Stephen Patrick Medlock, 56, was arrested and charged with starting the fire that burned more than 20,000 acres in Poppet Flats, Twin Pines and throughout Banning, and reportedly caused physical injuries to more than a dozen individuals, including firefighters.
The trial is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, in Department B304 at the Banning courthouse.
Medlock has been held in the Larry D. Smith Correctional Center in Banning on $500,000 bail since he was arrested March 8, 2018.
