Rio

By Janice Murasko
Last week in “Days of Our Nine Lives,” the ARF cats welcomed a litter of kittens.
Phil: Adoption news!
Harley: Clearly, it wasn’t us.
Phil: Right, but it is still good! Sadie was adopted, but that leaves Pepper still looking for her forever family.
Whiskers: And I’ve heard there is another new ARF dog.
Phil: You are so right! ARF has a puppy named Rio. He is only 4 or 5 months old, but he’s already housetrained, cratetrained and likes other dogs.
Harley: What about cats?
Phil: Rio is fine with cats. He’ll be such a great family member.
Don: And he is very cute. He is about 23 pounds and probably a pit bull-mix. No one knows his history because he was found abandoned in a dry river or wash. Poor thing. He is lucky a kind woman rescued him.
Rio: (bounding into the room) Are you talking about me?
Don: Hi, Rio! Yes, we were talking about you and what a great puppy you are.
Rio: I will make some family very happy. Where are the kittens?
Harley: Come with me. They’re in the kittenry. Three have been spoken for, leaving two boys, Carmel and Corona, waiting for their forever humans.
Whiskers: No doubt they’ll be chosen very soon.
Rio: I hope I’m chosen soon.
Harley: You will be, I’m certain.
Don: This coming weekend people may shop at ARF’s yard sale and then visit us.
Phil: So, in addition to going home with terrific yard sales finds, they could go home with a new family member.
Don: Perhaps!
