Adult Volleyball

It was the clash of the titans last Tuesday as the two undefeated teams (Village Hardware and Idyllwild Garage) went head-to-head on the court. Despite an outstanding display of athleticism by Cody Fogle from Village Hardware, it wasn’t enough as Idyllwild Garage showed up strong on offense and defense to win the match 3 games to 1. Idyllwild Garage remains undefeated.

But watch out. Another team with a full head of steam called BBI Construction swept both Forest Lumber and Red Kettle 3-0 last week to win their third in a row and are now tied for second place in the league standings.

We know who the strong finishers are for 2023, but which teams will rise up and grab their spot in the 2024 March playoffs, and who will go all the way? We will find out after the winter break when the league resumes in January. There are still a lot of matches to be played; 2024 could be anybody’s year.

Adult Basketball

No need to turn on the heat at the Idyllwild School gym last Wednesday night. The five teams in the adult basketball league were “on fire” as the second series of games were played with intensity and ferocity; there were many heated battles on the court that could have gone either way.

After losing their opening game, Team Blue cranked up their “intense-o-meter” as they won 2 out their 3 games of the night. Kyle Owen was excellent on defense, dominated the boards, and always found his captain, Michael Smith, open for the shot.

Captain Smith was hitting jumpers from all over the court and could not seem to miss. They went on to defeat Team Red and Team Black (both by a score of 21-19) and are now tied for second place.

Team White (also tied for second place) showed an excellent display of dizzying passes as they had a way to get the ball to their open 3-point shooters — Colin Parker and Captain Buddy Beagle — who were draining three’s all night long.

They managed to defeat Team Blue but could not get past the undefeated Team Grey in their nail-biting game that ended as the clock expired. It was Captain Jake Mabery who took matters into his own hands as he hit the crucial 3-pointer at the buzzer to win the game for Team Grey.

Phwew! Maybe we should start selling tickets to these games. Who needs to watch primetime NBA when we’ve got all the local basketball action going on right here at home.
