Thursday afternoon, the Edna Fire broke out just south of Banning and north of Poppet Flats, near Mt. Edna Road and Highway 243, which was closed for several hours.

The cause of the Fire is under investigation. Although several Facebook posts suggest a traffic collision may have been the cause.

The Fire was reported about 3:40 p.m. Thursday and burned 33 acres in light vegetation.

By 8:25 p.m., Cal Fire reported that the Fire’s forward progress had been stopped and was 75 % contained. In its Friday morning report, Cal Fire stated containment is now at 95 %.

Sixteen fire engines responded to the Fire and several helicopters. More than 150 personnel helped control the Fire.
