As of Wednesday morning, Nov. 6, the Riverside County Registrar of Voters reports that nearly every precinct has reported some results. But total turnout is currently 39.9%, which means many ballots remain to be counted.

National

Donald Trump has apparently been elected to a second term. As of Wednesday morning, the national news associations give him 277 Electoral College votes and 270 are needed to win the Presidency.

State

Adam Schiff, a Democrat, has defeated former Dodger Steve Garvey, the Republican candidate, to be the new California Senator. With 90 percent of precincts reporting, Schiff had garnered 57.3 % of the votes. He leads Garvey by 1.5 million votes for the full six-year term election.

He also has a commanding lead in the election to complete the unexpired term of former Senator Dianne Feinstein. Gov. Gavin Newsom appointed EMILY’s List President Laphonza Butler to fill the seat until the election of a successor.

Congressional

As of Wednesday morning, incumbent Republican Ken Calvert has a narrow lead over challenger Will Rollins for California’s 41^(st) Congressional seat.

Calvert has a 2,100 vote lead with about 216,000 votes counted. In their 2022 race, a total of 235,000 votes were cast.

Former Hill Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz won re-election to his House seat.

State Assembly

In the hugely close 2022 race between Republican victor Gregg Wallis and his Democratic opponent Christy Holstege for the state Assembly seat 47, Holstege holds a narrow lead.

She had the lead in the immediate days following the 2022 election, but Wallis eventually won by a total of 85 votes.

As of Nov. 6, Holstege has an 1,800 vote lead in the whole district, which is composed of both Riverside and San Bernardino County precincts.

Her Riverside County lead in 10,000 votes.

In the 36th Assembly seat race, Republican Jeff Gonzalez has a 1,600-vote lead over Democrat Jose “Joey” Acuna. This District includes portions of Riverside, San Bernardino and Imperial counties. The Riverside County voters gave Gonzalez a 2,900 vote lead. Acuna’s strength was in Imperial County.

Local

In the Idyllwild Water District election, there were four candidates for three seats. As of Wednesday morning, challenger Jessica Priefer has garnered 475 votes, far ahead of the other three candidates, all of whom are incumbents.

Board President Dr. Charles “Chip” Schelly is second with 347 votes.

Surprisingly, former Director Steve Kunkle, who resigned in October and avowed no interest in returning to the IWD Board, lead Board Vice President Peter Szabadi. Kunkle has 281 votes and Szabadi has 232 votes.
