Both candidates for U.S. Congressional District 48, which includes Idyllwild and Pine Cove, will be holding meet and greets in Idyllwild this week.

Jim Desmond, the Republican, will be meeting voters at Tahquitz Pines Retreat on Friday Aug. 21, and Marni Von Wilpert, the Democratic candidate, will be at the Idyllwild Community Center on Saturday Aug. 22.

Proposition 50 redistricting moved Idyllwild out of the district of Republican Ken Calvert. The decision of Republican Darrell Issa not to run for reelection in the new district opened the race up.

Desmond’s visit is at the invitation of the Town Crier. We will be inviting all of the candidates that we interview to come to Idyllwild and meet the voters

Republican candidate for congress Jim Desmond will hold a meet and greet on Friday, Aug. 21, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Tahquitz Pines Retreat, 55251 South Circle Drive. Community members are invited to meet Desmond, hear about his campaign for California’s 48th Congressional District and ask questions about the issues important to the Hill. The event is at the Peak Hall (above the Peak Restaurant).
