Vehicle over the side above Banning switchbacks
A solo vehicle collision was reported to CHP at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at mile marker 25.40 of SR 243, at the second switchback hairpin above Banning.
A silver Ford F-150 had left the road and was 100 feet below. At 6:15 p.m., CHP reported that a male wearing an IFPD T-shirt had climbed back to the road with minor injuries.
Sgt. Beauchene of the CHP’s Beaumont office explained that vehicles up to 250 feet from the road are usually recoverable with a winch. He added that vehicles that are visible from the roadway are almost always recovered, but that unrecoverable vehicles are marked for aviation so they are not reported in the future.
