Bill Matthews passed away May 8, 2012, at home. He was born in 1935 in Los Angeles, Calif. He worked in his father’s auto repair shop until serving in the Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956. He had a career as a diesel truck mechanic and supervisor for the Los Angeles Times truck fleet and repair facility.

Matthews built a vacation home in Pine Cove in 1977 and eventually retired to Pine Cove in 1991. He served on the Pine Cove Water District Board of Directors for 12 years.

He was an avid fisherman, woodworker and loved cars, motorcycles and dogs. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by wife Lynette; daughters Catherine Hargis and Brenda Mann; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Idyllwild Bible Church.
