Ann Lumsden
Ann Lumsden, 88, of Boulder, Colo., died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Boulder Manor Nursing Home.

Ann was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., in 1923, but spent most of her life in Southern California. She was a professional singer for many years. She met her late husband, William Lumsden, a paratrooper in World War II, at a USO camp show where she was performing. She gave recitals, performed on the radio, and sang in the chorus in the movies “The King and I” and “Carousel.” Later, while still singing in church choirs, she became a secretary in the Anaheim, Calif., school district. Ann was also a lifelong poet.

She and her husband lived for the most part in the greater Los Angeles area. Their last home together was in Idyllwild. There she became active in local affairs, was a longtime member of the Rotary Anns, and served for several years on the water board.

After her husband’s death, she went to live in Australia with her daughter and family. She had traveled to Abu Dhabi and Oman in the Middle East and to Scotland, places where her daughter previously lived, and she continued to visit her son and his family in Denmark.

In 2005, she moved to Boulder, Colo. and became an important part of her sister’s family. She enjoyed the University of Colorado’s College of Music faculty concerts, Boulder Ballet’s performances, and walks around Lily Lake near Estes Park.

At Golden West Manor she was a dedicated member of the creative writing class and made good friends. She later moved to Wynwood Assisted Living, and she passed away peacefully at Boulder Manor nursing home.

She is survived by her son Stephen Lumsden (Mette), her daughter Melissa Stevens (Phil), five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and her sister and brother-in-law, Nan and Roy Davison, and family.

A reception and celebration of Ann’s life was held Friday, Dec. 21, at Golden West Retirement Center Penthouse in Boulder.
