Town Hall Sports Coordinator Jeremy Teeguarden reported on youth basketball for both the College League (kindergarten through third-grade) and the Pro League (third- through sixth-grade) for the week of Jan. 28.
College League (Kindergarten through third-grade)
The College League (grades K-3) played two days this week.
The first game on Tuesday, Jan. 29, was between the Gastrognome Broncos and the Bluebird Cottage Inn Jayhawks. The Broncos got off to a fast start as Layton Teeguarden shot well all night scoring nine points. The Jayhawks’ Ethan Scott played hard all game also scoring nine points. Phoenix Bernal led the Broncos solid defense and they won 21-9.
The night’s second game matched the Idyllwild Rotary Bears and the Pacific Slope Bulldogs. Cole Sonnier’s great defense helped the Bears forge an early lead. The Bulldogs didn’t give up and made a late comeback to tie the game. Meili Stroud played tough defense for the Bulldogs as they came back. The Bears’ Preston Pino, who scored all his team’s points, added a late basket for a Bears’ 16-14 victory.
On Friday, Feb. 1, the Gastrognome Broncos played the Wooley’s Wildcats. The Wildcats jumped out early scoring 10 points in the first quarter. Joel White played well for the Wildcats scoring eight points in the game. The Broncos played better defense in the second half as James Phillips hustled all over. The Wildcats were too tough in this game and won 20-8.
Friday’s second game was between the Idyllwild Rotary Bears and the Bluebird Cottage Inn Jayhawks. Fiona McMillen for the Jayhawks and Katelyn Sonnier for the Bears played great and kept the game close through three quarters. The Bears pulled away durng the fourth quarter and won 16-8.
The College League playoffs began 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5. In this game, the Jayhawks played the Bulldogs. The playoffs continue at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8.

The first game Friday, Feb. 1, night was between the Idyllwild Arts Clippers and the Suburban Propane Heat. The game was a defensive battle in the first half as neither team could get open looks at the basket. The Clippers’ Tobin Ale and the Heat’s Josh Gray controlled the middle anchoring the defenses.
The second half was a different story as both teams started to hit open baskets. The game was close until the Clippers’ Chayton Kenyon hit a couple of key three-point baskets giving them the lead and the win, 19-14.
In the night’s second game, the Fairway Market Lakers met the Town Crier Cavs. The Cavs played great all game as they built a lead behind some big shots from Aly Fogle. The Cavs held the lead the whole game but the Lakers stayed close and with time running out got the tying basket from Isaiah Carmen as time ran out. In overtime, the Lakers took control and finished their comeback to win 26-24 in a great game by both teams.
The Pro League playoffs begin this week. The starting times are 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday Feb. 8.

The opening game was between the Idyllwild Professional Cleaning Service Ninja Strikers and the Rotary Raging Rivers. The Ninja Strikers Eduardo Lopez was kicking the ball all over the field and played great for his team. The Raging Rivers’ Finneas Carpenter played great defense and was awesome for his team.
