Virginia “Ginger” R. Buckner, 77, of Mountain Center, died of cancer on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at Hemet Valley Health Care in Hemet.

Mrs. Buckner was born Dec. 2, 1922, in Sebetha, Kan. She had moved to California 63 years ago and had lived in Mountain Center for the past 31 years.

She was Chaplain for the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion, and loved gardening and hummingbirds.

A remembrance day will be held at the American Legion Post 800 in Idyllwild on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at 2 p.m.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000 at 2 p.m., at Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Memorial Park in Riverside.

Mrs. Buckner is survived by her daughter, Barbara Kesterson of Banning; a son, Richard Buckner of Beaumont; a sister, Bonnie Granger of Burbank; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the American Cancer Society, Palm Desert Unit, 74-140 El Paseo, Suite 1, Palm Desert, CA 92260. Include the name of the deceased and the recipient for an acknowledgement card.
