A 40-year-old Indio man was killed in an over-the-side solo vehicle crash reported at 10:37 a.m. Saturday, April 30.
The Riverside County Coroner identified him as Elijah Butler who was declared dead at 11:11 a.m.
California Highway Patrol Sgt. Robert McLoud said the collision partially closed Highway 74 in Palm Desert at Vista Point for about five hours. The crash is under investigation so he could only say about the vehicle that he thought it was a minivan.
Riverside County Fire Department reported that the vehicle was found 200 to 300 feet “over the side with one occupant who was ejected.” The vehicle was on fire when Riverside County Fire arrived. It was contained at 11:29 a.m.
