

Soroptimist event raises nearly $2K, draws more than 60

Mary Morse makes a presentation on human trafficking at the Soroptimist International of Idyllwild’s March 15 event. The evening event raised $1,900 to fight human trafficking. The evening of art, music and information featured Marge Muir (back left) as emcee. Donated art, which local women created, was featured in a silent auction and — along with the admission fee — accounted for the money raised. Last Thursday, Feb. 19, the “Hillbilly Games” were held at the Idyllwild Library. The first event pitted two teams in a game of Idyllwild Jeopardy. Here, members of Team One — Barbara Hunt, Bud Hunt and Gina Genis — prepare to answer the first question, “Who was named homecoming queen the same year her brother, David, came home from the Air Force?” All the questions were based on archived copies of the Idyllwild Town Crier, available at the Idyllwild Library or online, from 1949 through 1956.
The Idyllwild Orchard Project, headed by permaculturist Tricia Pilkington, aims to provide emotional and edible sustenance to the Idyllwild community.
