Before Michael Brown owned a record shop, he knew how it felt to be welcome in one.

As a teenager in Janesville, Wisconsin, he frequented a small independent store specializing in punk and new wave. Friends and MTV had helped introduce him to the music. The shop gave him somewhere to find it, and somewhere to stay a while
