As the primary reporter of information about public agencies on the Hill, we need to attend about a dozen meetings a month. Readers depend on us to report what happens so, more often than not, we cover lightly attended meetings. A couple of weeks ago, I attended a meeting in San Francisco where we merged…
We produced a paper this week without either an interim operations manager or our incredible Halie, who is on maternity leave, as many of you know. She will be returning at the beginning of the year and though we all here are immensely excited about that, it will be difficult for her to leave little…
The low‐budget, independent feature film “The Cabin,” currently filming in Idyllwild, is seeking extras to volunteer at select times during the upcoming week. Directed by Will Dickerson (Detour), “The Cabin” is a psychological thriller that follows a children’s book author on her return to her hometown upon inheriting the house she grew up in. Extras…
Jack and I found our children, their spouses and all the grandchildren — including little Finley, two months old this Tuesday — in our clutches, as well as seven friends, 20 people in all, on Thanksgiving day. Three of the little ones ran circles around the dining room table while the women hung out in…

Crumrine wrote and this is why it’s significant. Right now, as I write this column, the Inland Regional Joint Corruption Task Force…
Several years ago, my stepson’s elderly grandparents in Michigan received a phone call from him saying he was in Australia in jail and needed money for bail. He begged them not to tell his parents. He is their only grandchild. They were shocked and overwhelmed with concern. He told them how to send him the…
Jack and I took a short trip up to Sacramento last week where the California Newspaper Publishers Association hosted its quarterly meeting Friday. Having visited Sacramento for these meetings in many past years, as well as more recently for the California Press Association, I have become enamoured with the city and thought of this as…
“People are my bag,” summed up a Desert Sun School counsellor’s lifestyle in a 1972 Town Crier. He is shown sporting longish hair and talking with a long-haired student petting an equally long-haired dog. And throughout the 1970s, the youth of that era and the older generation are in stark contrast to each other as…
