Brush fire breaks out on Easter night

    ByIdyllwild Town Crier April 4, 2018April 4, 2018 Reading Time: 1 minute

At about 10 p.m. Easter night, a 75-foot-by-75-foot vegetation fire in heavy brush broke out on Saunders Meadow Road, south of the Idyllwild Transfer Station. The Idyllwild Fire Department quickly contained it, said Chief Patrick Reitz. The U.S. Forest Service responded to the scene and the two agencies controlled the Saunders Fire. The Forest Service is investigating the cause of the fire.

The first to resign was Charlie Wix in February 2017. Through a bumbling process where another director…

    Bobbie Rants: Rhythm Bottom

    ByIdyllwild Town Crier April 4, 2018April 4, 2018 Reading Time: 1 minute

Attending a recital at Idyllwild Arts, we entered Stephens Hall and found only one unoccupied seat. Gary offered it to me. And then he spotted a kettle drum pushed against the wall. It was draped in green vinyl and looked more like a round table than a musical instrument.

Don’t Be Scammed: New tax scheme

    By April 4, 2018April 4, 2018 Reading Time: 2 minutes

They’re at it again… tax scammers scheming new ways to steal personal information and money.

In the first scenario, identity thieves file a fake tax return and have the refund deposited into your bank account. The thieves then contact you, often by phone, and — posing as the IRS or debt collectors for the IRS — demand you return the money to the IRS. But following the thieves’ instructions actually sends the money to them.

Riverside County Sheriff Stan Sniff’s re-election effort is encountering strong opposition from several within his department. The first opposition was Lt. Chad Bianco’s announcement of his intent to re challenge Sniff. He had been easily beaten in the 2014 race; but that result did not deter him from entering the race this year. The 2014…
