    You may have noticed an unnamed black and gold helicopter flying for 30 to 45 minutes over Idyllwild last Friday afternoon. The helicopter is leased by WaveRider Helicopters of Oceanside from November Alpha LLC. Kurt Dawson, owner/pilot of WaveRider, said his company was contracted by a surveyor to survey the power grid in our area. “The surveyor was probably hired by SCE,” he said, and Dawson and an employee were given a map to survey problems in the grid such things as trees in the power lines.

    A cannabis (marijuana) industry is likely to come to the unincorporated areas of Riverside County, perhaps in 2018. Already nearly a dozen cities within the county have permitted at least one feature — retailing, cultivating, testing or distributing — of the novice industry.     The prestigious Youth America Grand Prix at Escondido’s California Center for the Arts in the middle of last month turned into a kind of all-star game for Idyllwild Arts Academy dancers. Sofia Tellez Marquez, Alejandra Alicona and Andrea Hernandez placed among the top 24 female classical dancers, with Andrea landing in the top 12, and Dayoung “Sally” Kim placing among the top 12 female contemporary dancers.
