Louise Armour of Fern Valley passed away on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, after a long illness.

Ms. Armour was born in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1914. Soon thereafter, she moved to California with her family and grew up in Glendale.

After studying dance and fashion design, she moved to Washington, D.C., in 1945, opened a studio and designed formal gowns for the wives of a number of Washington political figures.

In 1950, she moved to New York City to a long career as a well-known fashion designer.

Retiring in 1980, and after a brief time living in the Virgin Islands, she returned to California and in 1982 made her home in Idyllwild.

In her retirement years, she made a home for many stray dogs.
She also traveled, most recently on an animal safari to Kenya in 1997.

She is survived by a sister, Mary Sweetser of Sequim, Wash., a niece and nephew and their children.

Plans for a memorial service are pending.
