Larry Paul answered a higher calling on Monday, July 13, 2009, at the age of 71. He was born Dec. 23, 1937, in North Carolina.

Larry and his wife, “Susie,” raised a family on their ranch in Garner Valley for the past 35 years. During that time he worked as a contract civil designer for several civil engineering firms in the Coachella Valley area, and was also a partner in a civil engineering firm for many years.

Larry also shared his passion for the outdoors, photography, hunting, music, reading, community service and many other hobbies with his family and friends, and has left a legacy of many memories.

An informal memorial and potluck service for all his friends and relatives to share their thoughts, stories and memories will be held at the Idyllwild Nature Center on Highway 243 between Idyllwild and Pine Cove between noon and 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. He is survived by his wife, Susan, of 51 years; son Lon; daughter Shanda; and granddaughter Talora.
