Former Claremont and Idyllwild resident Marilynn L. Fisher, 78, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland.

Mrs. Fisher was born April 27, 1923, in New Castle, Pa., to John H. and Lillian M. (del Pierre) Templeton.

She lived in Claremont for 40 years before moving to Sunrise Assisted Living in Rancho Cucamonga where she resided the past five months.

She divided her residency between Idyllwild in the summer and Claremont in the winter prior to moving to Rancho Cucamonga.

Mrs. Fisher was an accountant at Bank of America in the City of Hope and at Vortox prior to her retirement.

During the Korean War she participated as an airplane spotter with the Ground Observer Corps looking for enemy planes which might attempt to enter California’s air space. At the close of the war she was recognized for 250 hours of service by the United States Air Force Air Defense Command.

Mrs. Fisher’s faithful service to the Order of the Eastern Star was recognized upon completing 50 years of membership. She was past president of the San Dimas Senior Center and attended area churches.

Mrs. Fisher held many offices in the Business and Professional Women’s Club, including president of the Claremont BPW Club. In 1968, she ran for Claremont City Council.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16 at Todd Memorial Chapel in Pomona. A memorial service will be held in the mausoleum at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17 at Pomona Valley Memorial Park, 502 E. Franklin, Pomona.

Entombment will be private,

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother John Jr., and also by her longtime devoted friend, Elsie Schlick.

She is survived by two sisters, Virginia “Betty” Eve of New Castle, Pa. and Maxine Gill of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a nephew, Gregory Gill of Kalamazoo; three nieces, Peggee Jurewicz of West Amherst, N.Y., Wendy Livingston of Marshall, Mich. and Ruth Ann Coon of Medina, N.Y.; one grandniece, four grandnephews and an “adopted” daughter, Susan Klingler De Antonio of Alta Loma.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the City of Hope in lieu of flowers.
