On Tuesday, Sept. 20, the Idyllwild Fire Protection District commission will meet to discuss and take actions to ensure sufficient cash to pay bills for the next several months. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Idyllwild Fire Station.

Options that will be considered include cashing out its $125,000 certificate of deposit and borrowing additional money from Riverside County. The borrowed money would be guaranteed with future property tax and special assessment revenue due in December and January.

The agenda for the meeting is attached.

The commission had already scheduled a special meeting later this month to adopt its 2011-12 final budget. This planned for 6 p.m., Monday, Sept. 26 at the Fire Station.

  1. This cash flow problem that IFPD is experiencing is not new and goes on every year. In the past the Chief, the Board of Directors, and The Family Business would plan for these circumstances well in advance. The Family Business tried very hard to inform, especially Commissioners Killingsworth, Stigall, and Capparelli, of this annual cash flow shortfall. Proactive planning 12 to 18 months ago would have mitigated this situation. These three Commissioners specifically ignored and admonished our concerns and advise. Janice and I sincerely hope that the composition of the new Board of Directors will address this situation more openly and with more purpose.
