Jim Crandall, Palms to Pines Golf Association handicap chair, provided this report on last week’s golf tournament:

The club held its regular monthly tournament at Diamond Valley Golf Course on Friday, Jan. 20. The day was stunning with bright skies and gentle winds, and the course was in good shape with fast greens.

Bill Ragland (course handicap 15) came in first with a net 68; Jim Crandall (12) took second with a net 70; John Brower (11) took third with a net 72; Gary Leong (13) took fourth with a net 74; and Les Widerynski (16) and Robert Priefer (24) shared fifth place with net 76s.

There were four closest-to-the-pin contests: Ragland won on hole 4; Crandall won on hole 6; Widerynski won on hole 13; and Bill Sanborn won on hole 17.

The club welcomes new members Deborah Gmeiner and Mona Gutierrez-Portales.

Points are awarded at each tournament as follows: first place, 6 points; second place, 4 points; third place, 3 points; fourth place, 2 points; fifth place, 1 point. In addition, one-half point is awarded to everyone who participates.

The club is a member of the Southern California Golf Association and is sanctioned to establish SCGA handicaps for members.
